Wild Families: Campout

This program will return for the summer of 2026!

This is a program for families to camp out on the land and to partake in various activities to deepen their knowledge and connection to the land. We offer a lighthearted and enriching space for our little community to feel healthy, wild and to grow some great wilderness skills and nature awareness.

Camping conditions will be rustic: we have several composting toilets and tarps for shelter if it’s raining. We cook over campfires and haul in jugs of potable water. There is a natural spring for a quick cooldown, as well as a river nearby to swim in (supervision by the parents is obligatory). Food will be stored in your car, in a barrel at camp that we provide, or in a barrel in the spring to keep cool. We also have access to a fridge with limited space that can be used. You’ll do well to bring simple and hearty meals.

Included: Water, kettles for hot water, a few camping pots and pans, fire wood, large tarps and other collective camping gear (saws, rope, etc.).

At least one Wilderness First Aid certified staff will be available on site at all times.

Not included: food, tent

Parents are responsible for their kids at all times, and in the past, it has worked that some mature enough youth join an activity group without their parents. Activities will be most relevant for youth aged 5 – 13, however we’ve had younger kids in the past tag along and still get a lot out of the experience.

Schedule and location:

The program will take place in Papineauville from Thursday August 1st to Sunday August 4th, 2024.

Thursday morning will be a time to settle, get a tour of the main campsite area, and to gather up with the whole community before lunch. In the afternoon we’ll start our choiced based activities and end with some evening activities.

Friday and Saturday will be more of the same, a block of time in the morning, in the afternoon, as well as in the evening, for families to choose from various activities that we will share.

There will always be some more ‘open space’ time for families to relax and play, and we’ll start and end our days with community circles to sing, share announcements and get motivated for the day.

The activity schedule will be shared with participants closer to the date, but you can expect the following activities being offered:

  • Wilderness survival skills related to shelter, fire, water and food
  • Various clay projects with natural clay that we will harvest from the land
  • Wildlife tracking
  • Tanning a deer hide
  • Willow basketery
  • Ecology walks to learn about plants, trees and birds
  • Natural craft projects (natural dye and paint art, etc.)
  • Jedi-training centre (a fun balancing game)
  • Archery practice
  • and more !

Sunday we’ll have a shorter block of time and then start to clean up our camp to wrap up the experience as a group and help integrate the lessons and crafts into our daily lives back home.

Price:

$450 + tx per family for the activity
(1 family = 1 household)

A welcome package will be sent a week before the first day of the program with specific details.
