From ancient weathered rocks and incredible natural processes, clay is formed! Clay has been in such a diversity of relationships with people around the world. From medicine, to crafts like endless forms of vessels, to building. Clay carries stories of the land and ecosystems it comes from, as well as stories of the cultures and techniques of those that made them.
Join us for a 4 day workshop on transforming wild clay into functional art. By the Rivière de la Petite Nation, we will go through the steps of clay identification, honourable harvest, processing, hand-building, and transformation in a pit fire.
The camping conditions will be rustic! We will be cooking over a fire and we will be using a composting toilet. Bring your own camping materials, food and water. We will be parking some 150m from where we will be camping, so be prepared to hike in your gear. We’ll have a small trolly and sleds to share to help with this.Â

Children can come free of charge, please register them here so we can have their info (health conditions, emergency contact, etc.). Please be aware that you are responsible for your child at all times while our staff focuses on teaching the workshop. We welcome the youth and encourage them to follow along, and we ask that the space for adult learning to be respected.Â
Schedule & Location(s):
This activity will be held on a friends’ private property in Papineauville, 7 minutes from Montebello, from Thursday August 10th to Sunday August 13th.
On Thursday: Arrive between 9am and noon to set up and eat, and we’ll start with our opening circle at 1:30pm. Sunday we’ll end at noon, and have time to pack up gradually and leave by 2:30pm.Â
We will be sending all of this information (and much more!) in our Welcome Document, 1 week before the program begins.
